What’s the catch and why only 6 months?

No catch.  This technology focuses on the teeth that show when you smile, and does not make major changes to your bite.  If you are an adult with crooked or spaced teeth and you are looking for a conservative and inexpensive way to straighten your teeth, this could work for you.

Any risks of damage to teeth or gums from moving teeth so quickly?

The forces used with 6 Month Smiles braces are actually lighter and teeth are seldom extracted, so there are fewer risks involved with 6 Month Smiles orthodontics.  Special nickel titanium wires are used with the primary focus of moving the teeth that show when you smile.
